Exail partners with Aurizn to enhance RAN robotics capabilities

French company Exail, which is one of two shortlisted for the RAN’s autonomous mine hunting program, SEA1905, has signed a strategic technology partnership with Aurizn, an Australian company specialising in simulation and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The partnership’s focus includes the potential application of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) in signal processing, situational awareness and decision support, as well as capitalising on both companies’ strengths in autonomous and resilient system development.

This collaboration is a significant step in Exail’s ongoing commitment to offering its cutting-edge technology to support Australia’s naval capabilities. A decision on Project SEA1905 has been imminent since before Christmas.

Based in Adelaide, Aurizn’s expertise in complex maritime simulation and underwater sensing will be instrumental in integrating and continuously updating Exail’s Naval Robotics technology suite, says Exail. This partnership highlights Exail’s dedication to adapting and evolving its solutions to meet the specific needs of the Royal Australian Navy.

“Partnering with Exail allows us to apply our Australian-based capabilities in simulation, sensors and AI,” said Bjorn Wharff, Director of Strategy at Aurizn, emphasising the synergy of the collaboration. “This collaboration will enhance and future-proof Exail’s naval robotics solution, bolstering its ability to meet the specific requirements of the Australian naval forces.”

Daniel Scourzic, Exail’s MCM & Deep Water Product Line Director, also highlighted the significance of this partnership.

“Working with Aurizn is a critical step in establishing a sustainable, Australian-focused industry capability around our naval robotics technology,” he said. “Our goal is to provide long-term support to the Royal Australian Navy with our advanced solutions.”

Adelaide-based Aurizn was formed in 2022 following the merger of two South Australian technology companies, Consilium and elmTEK. The company is emerging as a medium-sized supplier to Defence in Australia and internationally.
