EOS launches new “Slinger” counter-drone capability

Electro Optic Systems (EOS) has launched its Australian-made counter-drone capability, named the “Slinger”.

The Slinger, which incorporates lessons learned in theatres such as Ukraine, is designed to destroy targets with a single shot. It incorporates a radar, a 30mm Bushmaster M230LF cannon and lightweight RF proximity fuzed ammunition with a high explosive fragmentation load, and EOS’ proprietary stabilisation and pointing technology for counter-drone operations. It also uses an Echodyne ultra-low Size, Weight and Power (SWAP) 4D targeting radar

The weapon and its sensors weigh less than 400kg, it is fully stabilised to enable on-the-move operations, and is designed to track and engage drones beyond 800m. The proximity fuze and fragmentation ammunition means the system can also be used with reduced risk in built up areas.

Assistant Minister for Defence Matt Thistlethwaite, who launched the innovative local technology, said that he continued to be impressed by the world-leading capability of Australia’s defence industry.

Executive Vice President of EOS Defence Systems, Mr Matt Jones, said EOS was excited to launch the Slinger in response to growing international demand for advanced counter-drone technologies.

“We have applied the hard-won lessons from the battlefields, including Ukraine, to our Slinger system, ensuring it will give real edge to those looking to hit back against the growing threat of drones.”
